What is Dysport and How Can It Help Your Skin?

For anyone looking to smooth their wrinkles without ending up with that “frozen look”, there is good news! Dysport is a prescription injection proven to help even out the frown lines between your eyebrows and reduce specific muscle activity, without changing the expression of the rest of your face. Your frown lines will be minimized, while your expression won’t be altered — as untreated muscles will still work as usual.

One injection into each of the five points between and above the eyebrows will prevent the muscle contractions that end up causing frown lines, which will allow the rest of your face to move naturally.

    How Does Dysport Work?

Dysport is a botulinum toxin type A, like neuromodulators Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. Like its competitors, this solution works by obstructing the communication between nerves and muscles, by stopping the targeted muscles from contracting and wrinkling the overlying skin. Its effect can last up to four months. Dysport can also be used preventively to minimize muscle movement and stave off future wrinkles.

Most clients see improvement in just 2–3 days after treatment. After just 10 to 20 minutes after the treatment, Dysport will already attenuate the look of your frown lines. Also, there is no downtime after your treatment, which means you can get back to your day whenever you please.

Ninety-seven percent of the clients who used Dysport said they’d do it again as it delivers the natural-looking results people want. Dysport is approved in 69 countries and has 25 years of clinical experience behind it worldwide.

The Difference between Dysport and Botox

Although still a botulinum toxin type A, there are a few differences between Dysport and Botox: Dysport becomes effective up to 24 hours after injection as it is a smaller protein, whereas Botox may take up to a week to be effective because of its slightly different structure.

However, both Dysport and Botox contain the main active ingredient, which creates effectively the same results with patients. Some patients prefer Dysport because of its more natural look. Dysport has a quicker onset (2-5 days vs 4-7 days for Botox), and it diffuses more (i.e., spreads to a broader area).

    Are There Any Side Effects?

Along with its desired effects, Dysport treatments can cause some passing, mild side effects. These are rare but can include transient soreness or small bruising around the injection site. Some clients may experience a slight headache that lasts for several hours after treatment. Very rarely, there can be a complication called “ptosis” (a drooping eyelid) which may last a few days or up to four weeks.
